The story takes place during the Second World War in a small, remote village in the tri-border region of Serbia, Montenegro and Albania. Within 36 hours, a persecuted boy who lost his parents in an attack by a fascist paramilitary unit finds refuge in the home of a stranger, an Albanian named Nur Doka, with whom he has neither language, faith nor blood ties.
